U8/U10

Focus/Training Approach: The focus for the U8/U10 Program will be fundamental skill development. In the long run, strong skiers have the best opportunity to become strong ski racers and the goal of the U8/U10 Program will be to provide athletes with a strong foundation to become exceptional ski racers. The U8/U10 Training Approach will continue to strike a balance between free skiing and drill work for the early part of the season with gate training introduced only as and when the athletes are ready for it. The U8/10s will ultimately train GS and some Slalom, but athletes should be able to use the same equipment regardless of the training focus for the day (i.e. 1 pair of skis will be sufficient)

Competition: Jiminy Peak will host 3 events onsite exclusively for our U8/U10 Athletes that will showcase the development of the skills the Athletes are acquiring. The specific format of these events will be determined at a later date.

Prerequisites: The prerequisites for the U8/U10 Program remain the same as they have been for the Devo Program. All athletes must be able to make controlled steady linked parallel turns on moderate terrain and be able to ride all chairlifts at Jiminy Peak unassisted and at normal loading/unloading speed.

Age Requirements: The minimum age requirement for the U8/U10 program is 7 years old, with a maximum age of 9 years old for the U8/U10 Program. Athletes that are 10 years and older will be required to train and race with the appropriate training group based on her or his age (i.e. U12, U14, etc.). All age requirements will be based on the age of the athlete as of December 31, 2016. It is our expectation that athletes will follow the natural age progression for advancement – U8s will become U10s, U10s will become U12s, etc.

US Ski & Snowboard Membership: US Ski and Snowboard is the national governing body for alpine ski racing.  The Jiminy Peak Race Team requires all members of the program at all levels to have a valid US Ski and Snowboard membership.  Athletes wishing to participate in races will need an “Alpine Competitor” membership.  “Alpine General” memberships will not be adequate for athletes wishing to participate in races.
